Latest Report Shows Drop in Riders for Amtrak

Springfield – Trains are becoming a less popular mode of transportation in Illinois, at least according to a recent release from Amtrak. The company released their latest numbers over the weekend; which shows ridership dropping on the lines from Chicago to St. Louis, Chicago to Carbondale, and Chicago to Quincy.  Amtrak says that lower gas price mean more people are driving. The state’s nearly two-billion-dollar high-speed rail project is expected to be done within the next year which could increase numbers.
