Benton – Stephen Wigginton, The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois is resigning. Wigginton made the announcement, saying that he intends to join a St. Louis area national law firm. Wigginton was sworn into office in 2010 after being nominated by President Obama and confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate. Wigginton says it’s been an honor to serve Southern Illinois. The Southern District of Illinois covers the 38 southern-most counties in the state and has offices in East St. Louis, Benton and Fairview Heights. Wigginton’s resignation becomes official on December 11th.
