Chris Stapleton walked into the CMA Awards show last week on a red carpet and emerged walking on water. Or so it would seem.
His rafter-rattling duet with Justin Timberlake – plus the winning of three big awards – has catapulted his album Traveller to the tops of both Billboard’s country albums and all-genres charts. And this after Traveller had already been out for 26 weeks. Consider Traveller’s sales totals, as reported by Nielsen SoundScan. In the previous week it sold 2,356 copies – this week, 153,428.
The CMA extravaganza was a healthy boost to Eric Church, too. His Mr. Misunderstood album – the title song of which he performed on the show – debuts at No. 3 on first-week sales of 70,905 units.
It bears noting here that the top three albums on the Billboard 200 all-genres chart this week are Traveller, Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller and Mr. Misunderstood, in that order. How often does that happen?
The only other new albums are Chris Janson’s Buy Me a Boat, which bows at No. 4 on sales of 18,536 copies, and LoCash’s EP, I Love This Life (No. 38).
