Prescribed Burns Set to Start Throughout the Area

Marion – Area wildlife refuges and state parks are set to begin prescribed burns. Conservationists use the fires to improve forest health by encouraging tree regeneration, maintaining open land habitats, such as prairies, and to lower the possibility of wild fires. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge plans to conduct fires between now and April of next year. Notices will be posted with the dates of the fires for hunters and others who plan on being in the park.
