Mt. Vernon — Retired Marine Lt. Col Paul Schrimpf, who ran unsuccessfully last year for Illinois Attorney General, announced yesterday he will seek election to the 58th Illinois Senate District seat being vacated by retiring State Sen. Dave Luechtefeld (R-Okawville). Luechtefeld announced over the summer that he won’t seek reelection to the seat he has held for more than 20 years after the redrawing of legislative boundaries put his home outside of the district. Schrimpf joins Murphysboro Attorney Sharee Langenstein and former Lieutenant Governor and Carbondale native Sheila Simon in the race for the seat. The term ends in January 2017.
