(AP) Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn won’t be proposing any major new programs this year, saying the school will instead focus on “reshaping” itself as it deals with the repercussions of the state budget impasse. “While we may re-mold in some ways . it will be a reshaping, but it will still be SIU,” Dunn said Tuesday during his annual address on the state of the SIU system at the Edwardsville campus. He plans similar speeches Thursday at the Carbondale campus and Friday at the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield. SIU officials are planning for worst-case scenarios when it comes to the state budget, Dunn said. GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democratic leaders haven’t approved a state budget for the fiscal year that started in July.
