SIU Carbondale Student Enrollment Down in 2015

Enrollment at SIU Carbondale is down, but may be about what the university is hoping for according to the school’s administrators. According to University President Randy Dunn who spoke yesterday on the school’s enrollment numbers, total enrollment this year is reported at 17,292. That’s 697 less students than just a year ago, however, Dunn says that a lot of that is by design. The university was more stringent this year in admitting students. Susan Ford, the interim provost and vice chancellor for student affairs, says that due to demographic and population changes, 17 to 19 thousand students is the school’s goal. The loss in student numbers does however mean likely cuts in funding for the school, which administration will discuss in the coming months.
