A Carbondale man is recovering in a St. Louis hospital after being pulled from a drainage ditch after a wreck in Carbondale early yesterday morning. According to a report from the Carbondale Police Department, the accident happened between two vehicles at the intersection of South Wall and East Park streets at around 1:45 yesterday morning. One of the cars had rolled upside down into a drainage ditch and the water rose above the driver’s head before police were able to pull him out of the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Carbondale before being airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, but reports say his injuries are non-life threatening. The wreck remains under investigation.
