(AP) Illinois’ state climatologist says July was cooler and wetter than average across the state. But there were exceptions. Climatologist Jim Angel said Monday the state’s average temperature in July was 74.4 degrees. That’s almost a full degree below the average. But he noted that July 2014 was a much cooler 70.3. And in 2012 the July average temperature was a much warmer 81.8. The average precipitation for the month was 5.2 inches. That’s more than an inch above average. The wettest areas were around Quincy, Kankakee, Bloomington, and south of Carbondale. All had at least 8 inches of rain for the month. Angel said the northwest corner of Illinois and a stretch between Champaign and Marion were drier than usual.
