Sen. Durbin Hopes to Stop Mississippi River Project

Senator Dick Durbin is urging the EPA to stop a Mississippi River project that he believes would have an adverse effect on the region. Senator Durbin wrote in a letter yesterday asking for officials to veto the St. John’s Bayou New Madrid Floodway Project, which he says would close the last floodway along the Mississippi in Missouri, forcing flood waters onto the Illinois side. Durbin also said that the project would destroy fish and wildlife habitats in both states. The much maligned project is currently on hold, and is expected to cost around 165 million dollars.
