Gov. Rauner says the State Cannot Distribute Video Gambling Profits Without Budget

(AP) Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office says the state doesn’t have the authority to distribute video gambling profits to municipalities across the state without a state budget. The Republican governor and Democrats in the state Legislature have been at a budget impasse for weeks. His office announced Monday that municipalities hosting video gambling in bars and restaurants won’t get their cut until the state budget is in place. The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that some local governments reap thousands of dollars each month from the machines, while other towns have rejected video gambling. A spokeswoman for Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger says attorneys in her office are looking into the video gambling issue.
