Darius Rucker opted to celebrate his birthday on Wednesday (May 13th) by giving a huge gift to someone else. The singer visited the Today show and gave away the first of 11 homes to a deserving veteran on behalf of the Military Warriors Support Foundation. The other homes will be awarded during Darius’ new Southern Style tour, which kicked off last night (Thursday, May 14th).
The first recipient was Specialist Daniel Branham, whose new home is located in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Darius said, “Daniel’s an American hero. The things he did when he was deployed, he’s just an amazing guy, and he’s from my neck of the woods . . . You’re going to be my neighbor.” Darius also gave Daniel and his family tickets to his show.
The singer will host his annual Darius Rucker and Friends benefit concert on June 8th at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville. The event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
